What are you racing?

I know many of us our running Richmond, but not everyone is. Some of you are doing races in addition to Richmond, and some are doing different marathons, half marathons, and 10ks completely. We all meet on Saturday's but I am not sure anyone other then me knows who is running which races, so. . . tell us know. What are you racing? Include running, biking, swimming, and tris!

    btw,
let me put in a plug for atlanta, if you are ever looking for a great late fall race.

(atlanta half is one of the largest halfs in the country.)

the race(s) is thanksgiving day. this makes it impossible for some with entrenched holiday plans, but for others i think this is great to consider, since you probably already have vacation. the one tough part is there is no race day packet pick-up. you would have to be able to arrive by wed, late afternnon. pick-up lasts till 8 or 9. it as allowable to arrange packet pick-up if you have a friend in the area.

the marathon is a loop that follows much of the original olympic course and begins and finishes under the olympic rings near turner field, pretty cool. i think it is a beautiful course. i would rate it as fairly tough, last 6 miles is basically a gradual rise. the weather tends to be great that time of year. it has typically been quite cool at the start (even cold) and fairly warm at the finish. the marathon is not large, around 700-800.

the half is point to point, starting near the marathon turn-around on peachtree industrial and follows the last half of the marathon exactly. start is at a large marta station so transportation is not difficult. there is a marta near the finish also. my wife and i have run this together several times, with me doing the full and her doing the half. i just dropped her off and made the easy trip to the start/finish. the marathon begins a 1/2 hour after the half so that works well.

both races go through buckhead, upscale and beautiful as well as downtown atlanta right past the gold-domed capital building. the races are extremely well-organized (oldest marathon in the sputheast, run by the atlanta track club which also does the peachtree road race). there ia a nice expo as well.

In case there is confusion, Brent is refering the the Atlanta Marathon which has good reviews, NOT the ING Georgia Marathon which has TERRIBLE reviews. Both go through Atlanta, but are very different races.
