Next Race - Counting up the Votes

Thanks to everyone that voted and commented on what half/full you would like to run next. It appears that there are lots of us interested in another race (or people were stuffing the ballot box). There was not a clear winner in the poll, so it is likely the RMEC will have runners spread out over several races in February and March.

  • 8 - Prefer Myrtle Beach on 02/16 (11 weeks away)
  • 7 - Prefer National on 03/29 (17 weeks)
  • 4 - Prefer Shamrock on 03/16 (15 weeks)

We obviously do not all have to do the same race. Traveling/Running with a group is more fun, and that is why I did the poll. Each of the races above have their own strengths and drawbacks. It is important to pick the race that you will enjoy the most. I am still strongly considering running Tybee on 02/02 and renting a beach house for the weekend. I have missed almost a full week of running now, so I need to get back on a plan.

Now that the poll is closed, please use the comment feature on this post, so we know who voted. I will update the post as people reply. I already put in the names I knew about. If you have changed your preference, let me know. If you are new to the blog, we still want to hear from you, so don't by shy about positing a comment. It would be nice to have a name to go with every vote.

  • Tybee: Michael*, Ryan*
  • Myrtle: Brent, Arthur, Steve*
  • National: Michael, Matt*, Tracy, Dave H.
  • Shamrock: Cliff, Derek
  • Country Music - Frank, James

* = No one is firmly committed to the races above, but those with a * are specifically the ones that are only tentative. I do hope to here from more of you on this topic.

I am so impressed with everyone! What amazing accomplishments!
Michael, I've looked at a 1/2 marathon in May in DC and found it was already closed! Is that right? Have you looked at the early spring races; i.e. White Lake. Sign up for that weekend is only one month away, and it will close out within 24 to 48 hours. Is there any interest in the 1/2 Ironman? Sprint tri? Or relay teams?

Kinnie, which half in DC were you refering too? The National is on March 29th and is not filled.

We had a post below with lots of discussion on early spring races, but was only looking at marathons and half marathons.

Regarding the Tri, I do beleive there will be a group signing up for White Lake. There is discussions about creating a Tri Training team with the YMCA that Angela and Mary are working out some details on.

You're right - it closed in the first 14 days. It is the Marine Corps Half Marathon in Fredricksburg.

    Jennifer,
I chickened out last year due to the rough water conditions of the swim...it would have been my first open water and it was rough!!! Hope it is smooth as glass this year (without the 30 MPH winds) It was rainy and in the mid 50's at the start. I will be ready this year!!!

    Michael -

James and I are doing the Music City Marathon in late April . . . soooo I might be willing to go to GA with you. Timing works out fairly good . . . it's just the course sounds demoralizing. But hey, I've done demoralizing before.

    Michael,

I went ahead and reserved 5 rooms at Melwood Court where we stayed last year at White Lake. I'm reserving one for myself and have 4 for whoever else would like one. The rooms are $76 per night (Fri. and Sat. night). They consist of 2 double beds, one bath and a kitchen. The lady said she had 20 units left for the triathlon weekend but will fill soon after registration closes for the tri. It's a quaint little motel on the lake and will be filled with triathletes. It's about a 2 mile drive to race. We can reserve more rooms now if needed. Deposits will be due in January.
