Safety Tips of the Day

Eye Contact: As a runner, don't EVER cross in front of a vehicle at an intersection unless you have made eye contact with the driver. This is especially true when the driver is making a right turn on red. They are often looking to the left for the moment they can step on the gas and dart out in to traffic. They DON'T LOOK RIGHT for pedestrians. Be safe when you are running.

Be Seen: Of course, if it is dark, dawn, or dusk, be visible. Where a
jog-a-lite, a Firefly, and bright clothing.

Be Saved: Always take some form of ID with you when you run. I highly recommend a
Road-ID. These can be worn on your shoes, wrist, or ankle.

Eye contact! So true....they never look to the right and have almost been hit several times. Always stop and wait until they see you :)

  2. I got hit about 4 weeks ago . . . not running but crossing a street in Raleigh. I thought we had had eye contact but obviously not. Luckily he was only going about 5 mph and when I hit his hood with my hands he stopped. No injury! But scared both of us to death!

Patti, I had you and Jeff in mind when I wrote this. The more we run, the more we make assumptions and take things for granted.
