Okay, I know this is not a video about the Marine Corps Marathon, but it got me excited watching. Thanks to Jeff H. for sharing it. This is a course tour of the Richmond Marathon, which is my favorite race. I will keep a look out for more videos like this to keep us excited and motivated. Enjoy! By the way. . . there is enough time to recover after MCM and to do the Richmond Full or Half.
very cool video. sums it well. the river is great but mile 10 turning up hill sucks. mile 16 bridge is brutal. the neighborhood at 21 "the wall" is great. the downhill finish is unique, bizarre, fun and a little dangerous...
ReplyDeleteNice video. I'm trying to decide between Richmond and OBX as my first marathon. Are they about the same? Or is one much easier or more fun than the other?
ReplyDeleteJon and I are registered for the Full, and would love some company!
ReplyDeleteRichmond is at least twice as good as OBX. Richmond is the clear choice in my opinion!
ReplyDeleteFrank
OBX is primarily flat, except for a couple of hills in Nag's Head Woods and - of course - "the bridge" around miles 22-23. The bridge is very tough because it's windy and comes so late in the marathon. I loved OBX, but still prefer Richmond as there is terrific support and great autumn scenery. The mile 15-16 (Lee ?) bridge is quite brutal, but you soon turn into a couple of great neighborhoods with plenty of people cheering and energizing you. Close call but I prefer Richmond.
ReplyDeleteWho is planning to do Richmond?
ReplyDeleteGoing to be last minute decision for me.
Anyone know if it sells out?
I would like to do Richmond. Depends on how MCM goes for me.
ReplyDeleteI have not run OBX, so I can not offer a fair comparision, but I LOVE the Richmond course, fans, city, etc.
Ron.. not sure of the current capacity, but the next price increase for Richmond is Oct 1st.
ReplyDeleteRichmond has never sold out. Not sure they even have a cap.
ReplyDeleteI have run the half OBX( the second half of the full) and the Full Richmond (Im from Richmond too) but I think Richmond is the far better choice. Crowds, scenery changes etc. The Lee Bridge sucked,, but so did the OBX bridge. The end of the race is far more exciting in Richmond too, its several turns and then the downhill finish!! Depending on how I feel after MCM , I may do one or the other....
ReplyDeleteI've run run both as well. The 1st 1/2 of the OBX course is outstanding - the 2nd 1/2 is just ok. 75% of the Richmond course is great, the other 25% is so-so. The support from the crowds at Richmond is fantastic the support at OBX is minimal - however the locals do come out to support the race there just aren't that many of them. Both are good races - the OBX course is easier than Richmond but not greatly so. You can't go wrong either way, in my opinion. The medals, shirts, etc that the 2 races give out are similiar in quality as well.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, Leigh Ann and I just signed up for the OBX 1/2 - it will be her first!
ReplyDeleteIf I'm able to move after MCM, I'd be interested in the Richmond Half.
ReplyDeleteWill be my first time at Richmond! Looks like fun and I hope to see lots of my RM running friends. Levi is running the half, I'm running the full.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the help, everyone! Looks like Richmond is the better race. Hope to see everyone there. Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteI've done Richmond twice and highly recommend it. The course is great and the crowd support is great. I didn't think the bridge was too bad.
