Ursula and I, had issues arranging childcare, so we entered as a relay team and took turns watching the kids. We placed 5th in the coed division. I ran a 20:03 in the 5k, and Ursula rode 55:03 in the 15 mile bike. This combined for 1:15:05, and placed us 32 out of all finishers (relay and individuals).
Our combined relay time was still not good enough to hold off Eric Seale. After setting a 5k PR of 28:40, Eric posted the 8th fastest bike time of 43:30. His bike speed allowed him to pass 35 racers! This moved him up from 64th place after the run to 29th by the end of the race. All of this was good enough for a 4th place age group finish.
Right on Ursula's back wheel was Rob Powell with a time of 1:15:14. Rob was one of the original founders of the Fiesta Biathlon over 20 years ago, and he is still racing! Sunday, he began with a 22:35 5k and finished with a 52:40 on the bike. Despite finishing 33rd overall, Rob was in a super competitive age group and only managed 11th in his age group. He would have placed no worse than 5th in every other age group.
Congrats everyone on taking on a new challenge!
Results sound impressive to me. Nice job guys and gal!
ReplyDeleteSir Michael the Modest (sorry - saw Spamalot this weekend and feeling Pythonish)forgot to mention this. Michael's run was 9th fastest overall.
ReplyDeleteLady Ursula the Unfazed rode a bike course that had tricky steering and sketchy grip due to the wet roads and the head/cross winds. Many racers were riding sitting up, hands on the brakes and looking nervous. Ursula - head down cranking away...with a big smile on her face.
Rob, thanks for starting this event. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Oh, and I like the theme bike.
Hopefully we can get more RMEC involved next year and try to upstage all those "tricredible" types! ;-)
Just imagine what will happens as Eric runs a little more! Great Job!
ReplyDeleteEveryone else, way to go! wish I could gather up enough nerve to try something like this! You ALL rock!
