This is an old story, but thought I would share. It is a good write-up on the National Wirefly Marathon and Half Marathon. Dave, Frank, and I ran the half this year. It is really a well run event, and a great way to see Washington, DC without the crowds of the Marine Corp Marathon. Both are great events, but are two different experiences.
I will likely be back again in 2008 for my third half marathon, and hope others will join in. Take a look at the story, and see if you recognize anything.
Nice quote Frank! I also ran this race two years ago and it was pretty good.

One group of runners, neither famous nor fast.
ReplyDeleteFormed a team for a discount, (their shoes would not last).
They stayed pretty local, near Greenville, points east.
Other states interested them not in the least.
They ran for each other, to brag and to joke.
None was a blazer, but none was a poke.
Irreverent ‘bout training, except for the pace.
No diet or taper, just lace up and race.
They ventured to Richmond, to eat, drink and run.
The first-ever marathon; no danger, all fun.
When it was over, their pictures did spread,
O’er the local newspaper, which everyone read.
They were pleased by the pictures, their times and the miles.
So they wrote a thank you for a whole lot of smiles.
They thanked the policemen, the students, the fans,
The firefighters, onlookers and many high school bands.
The paper took note, and thanked everyone,
For making the marathon successful and fun.
And though it’s been 20 years and a while,
They’re still proud of “26 Miles of Smiles.”
