Please comment hear if you are running.  If you are arriving early or coming late, still post!  Plan to grab a coffee after the run at Dunkin Donuts.

Myrtle Beach 2014 - RMEC Trip

It has been a few years since the RMEC all picked a destination race.  The fall seems to have so many options that we are spread out over multiple races. The spring is simply too busy and several race Boston.

It seems like the Myrtle Beach Marathon and Half Marathon on February 15 would be the perfect race four our club, and give us a chance to pull everyone back together (old and new members).

Is there enough interest to plan a group outing?

I need to know so I can pick the correct date for the Sweetheart 5k.  If there is enough interest (15-20 runners), I can get us a block of hotel rooms and we can really have a good group trip.  Myrtle Beach is small enough that we can be together, but big enough to have your own space too.  The race course is flat and fast.  The weather is normally very comfortable.

There are 17 weeks to get trained.  I would like to see an honest list of names that want to run it.  If there is not enough, that is okay.  Just wanted to make some plans so we can all get focused and excited.

Yes or No, leave a comment.  If it s a yes, let us know which race, and how many from your family would be running.  Thanks!

RUN RSVP: Saturday 09/21 @ Teeter

No major races this weekend for the RMEC, and the weather looks nice.  Hoping to see a big crowd for the group run.  Please spread the word and invite others to come out and run with you.
As always, review the routes.  I chose something that went in the "Outback direction" to mix it up a bit.  All routes are easy to adjust for your needs.

I plan to start early so I can be soccer games.  This means it would be a big help if someone else could put fluids at the tracks.  If you can help, please comment.  See you all on the roads!

Note:  Even if you are running early, please comment and try to be back at the Teeter by 6:30 to join the group.

RUN RSVP: 09/14 Harris Teeter

RUN RSVP: Teeter Run 08/17

The temps tomorrow look amazing, but the precipitation looks less then stellar.  It will be mid to upper 60s, but a 60% chance of rain too.  I still strongly suggest getting in your fun.  A little rain will not hurt you, and you can't beat the temps for August.
These again are "Outback routes". Be sure to look them over before the run.  If you are arriving early or coming late, still post!  I need some help with the fluids.  I have to cook breakfast for some slumber party guest of Caroline's.  Invite your friends!

RUN RSVP: Saturday 07/27 DUNKIN RUN!

Going to be a great day to run (for July).  It is going to be only 66F tomorrow when we start and only 74F by 9:00 am.  Don't miss this day to run!  Still arrive well hydrated.  Apologies for not having fluids out last week.  They WILL be there this time.  If you can help, please comment.
I used the same routes as last week.  These again are "Outback routes". Be sure to look them over before the run.  If you are arriving early or coming late, still post!

After the run, be sure to grab an iced coffee from the new Dunkin Dounts!  Invite your friends!

RUN RSVP: Saturday July 20

My apologies for not getting the RSVP posted the last two weekends.  Vacation had me away and I fogot to get the post done.  We are back this Saturday!.  It will be very hot.  You should plan for it and arrive well hydrated.  Starting temps will be 73F and could climb to 81F.
I changed the routes (finally).  These are "Outback routes". Be sure to look them over before the run.  If you are arriving early or coming late, still post!  With the extra heat, knowing who is coming is important so we can put out the correct amount of fluids.  Invite your friends!

RUN RSVP: Saturday 06/29

Last week it was 67F when we ran.  Tomorrow it will start at 74F and could climb to 80F.  Please arrive hydrated!  For now, I am still sticking with the same routes.  Will try to mix it up soon.
Please comment hear if you are running.  If you are arriving early or coming late, still post!  With the extra heat, knowing who is coming is important so we can put out the correct amount of fluids.  Invite your friends!

RUN RSVP: Saturday 06/22

The summer has officially begun, based on the calendar, but the weather is perfect for a morning run.   It is looking like 67F when we start the run.  Great for June!
Please comment hear if you are running, I am only planning for enough Gatorade based on the comments here.  Help confirm that the blog is worth keeping up to date.  Invite your friends!

RUN RSVP: Saturday 06/08

The summer has officially begun. . . at least for those with kids.  The rain should be long gone by the morning.  This will leave a humid 76F-80F for our run.  Not ideal, but much better than the upper 90s we will be getting in July.
Please comment hear if you are running, I am only planning for enough Gatorade based on the comments here.  Help confirm that the blog is worth keeping up to date.  I also will be picking some different routes each week going forward.

Invite your friends!

Peak to Creek Registration

The Peak to Creek Marathon is open for a lottery registration.  This race takes 400 runners, and is a popular down hill, scenic, soft-surface, and fast North Carolina marathon.  At the time of this post less than 300 runners are in the lottery, so odds are great right now.  I would love to see the RMEC get a big group for a fall marathon again.  This is a great race to give it a try.

learn more at www.leetiming.com/P2CM_Info.html.  The lottery closes Wednesday night, so you need to sign up NOW!

RUN RSVP: Saturday 06/01

Well, the cool weather is gone. Please be careful for all of your runs, but especially your long weekend run. I have three different route options below, and we are starting at 6:30 to beat the heat. We may get earlier as the days get hotter.
Please comment hear if you are running.  Help confirm that the blog is worth keeping up to date.  If you can help with fluids, please comment about that as well.  Thanks!

First Post in YEARS!

Hello RMEC Members old and new. It has been a long time since I have emailed. Below are some important club updates:

MISSING IN ACTION:
Most of you have noticed that I have been MIA in regards to running lately. I am no longer working in Rocky Mount. This plis family activities have made it increasingly difficult to be out on the roads with you. I am trying to get the energy back in the RMEC, but need more help than before to see this happen.

MEMBERSHIP:
The RMEC is a member organization of the Road Runner Club of America. This affords us insurance for all events we do. This includes all groups runs, socials, and races (like the Medoc Trail Races). Without RRCA membership, the club is uninsured. Part of the membership fees goes directly to the RRCA for the club and for your dues. The club nor it's members profit off of the dues. I have opened up registration for the RMEC today. I have set the fees lower than ever before trying to primarily cover our RRCA costs and leave a little cushion. I hope you will strongly consider renewing your membership.

SATURDAY RUNS:
Our group is bigger than ever but also more fractured than ever. Not in a bad way. . . we just have multiple sub-groups that have developed. That is a good thing. The Saturday "long runs" are the best way for the sub-groups to all come together as "The RMEC". This is a great way to train and to motivate each other.

The Saturday runs are coming back, so start showing up! To keep things simple, the official start will always be 6:30 am from the Harris Teeter. If you want to log some earlier miles, do it. . . But be at the parking lot at 6:30 to join the rest of the group.

For these runs to work, I need help putting out the fluids "at the tracks", so I will be looking for people to sign up to take a weekend to help. The club can and will reimburse you for any costs. Just save the receipt.

FALL MARATHON:
This club began as a marathon training team with about 25 members. Every second year we have been successful at picking a fall marathon as a target. The group training is the glue that held us together.

We have LOTS of great options in the area. Several of us are planning to race the Peak to Creek Marathon in October (formerly Ridge to Bridge). This is a down hill North Carolina marathon. It is very scenic with a soft surface similar to the Tobacco Road Marathon. The race opens Saturday Junes 1st at noon, and will sell out in as little as 10 minutes. Whichever race you decide use the Saturday group runs as your way to prepare. Please comment on the blog with your race ideas.  Feel free to share links to your favorite races.

BRING BACK THE BLOG?
When we decided to switch to a FB Group instead of a blog things were different. Virtually everyone and everything that you 'liked' on Facebook showed up in your news feed. Facebook has slowly changed the rules. I see this because of the number of Facebook pages I manage, but general users may not notice.

Now Facebook only shows your posts a limited number of times in news feeds. For example, even though we have 236 RMEC "members" on Facebook, many of the items posted are only seen by 30-50 people. In other words. . . the group page does not reach the full audience, and it never reaches those not on Facebook.

So, should we bring back the old RMEC blog? The easy answer is "yes", but to do this, I need help. I'll be honest and say that work and family has reduced my time. It is not uncommon for me to leave the house a 6:50 am, and not walk back inside until after 7:00 pm. For the blog to work, I need other people who are willing to post too. Let me know by going to the blog (YES, I ACTUALLY MADE A POST) and commenting. This will be a quick test to see if people actually want the blog back.

WEDNESDAY SOCIAL RUNS:
There is a growing number of running clubs that are doing evening social runs. This is even more popular in the summer time when the days are long. I'd like to start organizing runs on Wednesdays at 6:30 pm from Westridge. The distance would vary from 3-6 miles depending on your needs. We would then grab a few beers on the patio post run. Once Lou's Grill opens up across the street we could go there as well. Is there interest? (comment on the blog).
