    Thanks Frank,

There is a lot to like about the Medoc Mountain Meltdown 35 Mi Run.

    * It is run by a marathon club that believes in the 11th Commandment ... Thou shall not go beyond 26.2
    * It is a Fat Ass format ... No Fee
    * After the 3rd loop (the Marathon mark), 90% of the field has gone home.
    * When I emerged from the woods on the 4th loop in 4th place (out of 51 starters), my day just got better.

    Regards,

    BK

  2. Thanks Frank and Cam. Although I did not run, it was nice to see lots of people.

  3. Bill - I've got to admit I am somewhat taken back by your comments. I'm truely glad you enjoyed your run, but I'm not sure I understand your motivation regarding your comments about RMEC.

RMEC is an club that encourages endurance athletics . . . running, swimming and biking. Plus any other endurance event that may come up. It is not a marathon club. In fact a number of RMEC members have ventured well past 26.2. And a number are still working on a 10k.

I'm thrilled . . . no . . . I'm totally thrilled at the efforts of each and every person out there trying.

I would hope that your comments were intended to encourage . . . but they came across to me as condesending.

Sorry of I misunderstood you intent.

You are quite the inspirational runner, finishing over 250 ultramarathons. We can learn a lot from folks like you! And you are definitely right that some people develop their own individual 'barries' to their own accomplishments. We need to find ways to help them through . . . with encouragement and positive reinforcement.

Frank, you and Cam did an outstanding job with the Meltdown. So glad that you both take your personal time to put on an event like this.

Events like yours enable people to accomplish new goals, and to build up greater goals. Like your comment says, that has always been the focus of the RMEC. Very few people reach goals on their own. We like to help people get to those. It could be your first 5k, a sub 3:00 marathon, or an ultra. Whatever your goal, our club likes to help you achieve it.

Well said, Frank! We are much more than a "marathon club". I personally take pride in the athletic ability it takes to compete in races of all distances. Just as a small example...I can (and have) run an ultra-marathon but I certainly cannot run a 5:03 mile like 51 year old Ashley Bass (club member) did a few years ago at the USAT&F NC Championships.

I certainly respect anyone who can finish a long race and I applaud your many accomplishments but I also think there is more than just distance to consider when judging the difficulty of an event - pace, terrain, etc.

And, last but not least, a big thanks to Frank and Cam for hosting the event. Great crowd!

    Scott

This was my fourth time running the meltdown, third time to complete all four loops, I'm not a member of the RMEC but have always been welcomed by warm greetings and encouragement to do my best. I really wanted to quit after the 3rd loop this year but Frank said "well, just relax I few minutes and see how you feel", sure enough after a small break I went on and completed the 4th loop. I look forward to this event every year and I'm never disappointed. Medoc provides great scenery and great trails for running and Frank, Cam and others from the RMEC who devote their time, energy and support can always be counted on. Thank all of you and I'll see you in Oct.

    Henry
