At one point we had 16 names interested in the Flying Pig Marathon and Half Marathon. I know there is a growing group of people interested in the Shamrock Marathon as well. Frank and Scott are entered in the Umstead Trail Marathon too. All races have advantages and disadvantages (travel, cost, weather, size, fun, wind, course, etc). Of course both the Shamrock and Flying Pig races are far enough apart that you could do both. I know many people are considering this. So here are the options:

- Date: March 22nd
- Link: Official Site
- Location: Virginia Beach
- # of interested RMEC runners: 8
- Names: Tim, Cliff, Derek, Ryan, Eric P, Steve, Robin, Kelly
- Date: May 3rd
- Link: Official Site
- Location: Cincinnati
- # of interested RMEC runners: 15
- Names: Frank, Michael, Tracy H, Ursula, Arthur, Scott, Patti, Ron, Derek, Amber, Levi, John, Misty, Jeff H, Eric P
The names above are what I have heard and read. They only mean someone might be interested. I will update the names as I hear more. Please post comments. If you are new to the RMEC, or plan to join, you are welcome to comment as well.
It is a lot of fun doing a trip with a group for a race. You are welcome to choose whichever race interest you. I am just trying to provide a forum for people to do some planning.
I am signed up and started training last week for Shamrock, I am not sure about Flying Pigs we will see after Shamrock
ReplyDeleteI'm interested in the Flying Pig. This will be my first marathon, so I need lots of training between now and then!
ReplyDeleteI doubt I will be doing the Flying Pig...The Shamrock is a possibility, assuming I survive Umstead.
ReplyDeleteI would really like to do Flying Pig, but I am not ready to put my money where my mouth is yet. Not sure about which race yet....Cincinnati is an incredible town. We could really have a blast there!
ReplyDeleteMisty
Although I have never been to Cincinnati, I tend to agree with Misty. It is supposed to be a great town, and the marathon is supposed to be an absolute blast. There are a few videos you can find online of the race.
ReplyDeleteThe fun atmosphere and good crowd support will be something that helps "newer" marathoners. The entire concept of the race is about doing something you never thought you would (i.e. "The day I run a marathon is the day pigs fly!")
I realize that getting to Cincinnati is going to be a more expensive trip, and that is an important decision for everyone as well.
Regardless of what you decide. . . JUST KEEP RUNNING! Other than some aches and pains, I would easily say all of your are healthier and happier because you are running. Use a marathon to keep you motivated.
Come on Misty! We'll have a total blast!
ReplyDeleteFrank
I have also decided that I cant spend the money right now in another trip out of town that involves a plane ticket...I am interested in another marathon and will keep running and cross training however. Not sure if Shamrock will work with other family obligations...(baseball and gymnastics meets of course!!!) I would absolutely love to train with the group again!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking Shamrock Half and Flyin Pig Full.
ReplyDeleteThink I'll try Shamrock half and Flying pig half with Boston Full sandwiched in between. Think Levi is gonna run Shamrock as well.
ReplyDeleteYou just can't resist the finish swine. Let's go to Cincinnati.
ReplyDeleteI believe I am in for both. I want to run the full at Cincinnati but not sure yet about what I will run at Shamrock
ReplyDeleteLevi Moore
Note: As of now, I'm not planning to fly. Don't think I'll take on that extra cost.
ReplyDeleteI'll be taking in the interstate scenery instead. :)
Ditto, Amber. I've started talking to Tampa about the "pig" and we'll probably drive too--unless I happen upon some outrageously low plane tickets. If we get enough interested in driving, maybe we can carpool/convoy.
ReplyDeleteMaybe FFF can leave a little early and run up (?)
ReplyDeleteIm interested in talking about a carpool and hotel sharing if anyone else is interested. Before I pitch the idea to the "family" I have to have the costs under control and reasonable!! Any thoughts or comments????? Im thinking cheap as I can get might get me there.......any ladies out there with some interest in sharing a room?????
ReplyDeleteI'd prefer to fly, so I think I'll keep an eye on ticket prices.
ReplyDeleteI'd also be interested in splitting a room if anyone else is.
I would love to do Shamrock half and Flying Pig Half. Jeff is doing Shamrock full (or at least he is planning to). So I am up to rooming with somebody at Flying Pig. We will both go and do White Lake the weekend after Flying Pig. (Jeff is doing the half and I will do the sprint) SO 2 weekends away is tough for both of us.....and since I have not raced in a while I get dibs on Cincinnati. I am excited to be back with the gang!!!
ReplyDeleteIf my foot heals and I can get on track I would be interested in the flying pig. I know the family won't go so a roomie would be great!
ReplyDeleteI'd consider a roommate at Flying Pig if Elaine doesn't go...Would conider a car pool too.
ReplyDeleteMisty
hmmmmmm lots of options for roomies!!!!!
