Congratulations to Andy for completing the Triangle Triathlon this past Sunday in Raleigh. This sprint tri was hosted by Setup Events, and consisted of a 750 meter swim, 15 mile bike ride, and a 5k run. Andy is one of the most fearless people I have ever met. Nothing seems to scare him. Last week at the Y however Andy seemed genuinely nervous about swimming 750 meters in open water. Turns out he had nothing to fear, as he finished the swim in 19:24. This actually turned out to be his best leg of the tri relative to the competition. Following the swim, Andy did the bike in 53:29, and the 5k in 30:34. Great job Andy!
More Tris: My hat is off to Andy, for overcoming a fear, and taking on the challenge of a triathlon. Andy is one of many examples in the RMEC that proves you don't know what you are capable of until you give it a try. I know lots of you are in the bubble trying to decide if you want to try a triathlon. I hope you do! If you just do one a year, or one in a lifetime. Give it a shot. We have enough bikes, helmets, and wetsuits among the RMEC to help you out.
Here are some options for you to consider:
Here is a close tri that has a half mile swim, 20 mile bike, and 3 mile run.09/06 Mayo Lake Triathlon - Another sprint option put on by Finish Strong09/06 Dash for Divas Sprint @ White Lake - Perfect introduction race for women only. Has an open water swim in a crystal clear lake that is only 250 meters long. There is even a Saturday night Luau.09/07 Club Wars @ White Lake - Another White Lake event with a 1000 meter swim, 21 mile bike, and 5 mile run. You can enter as a individual or a team. Teams require ten finishers to be scored. RMEC are you interested? Can we come up with 10 participants?
Great job Andy! Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Andy! Stunning job.
ReplyDeleteI would love to participate in the White Lake "weekend" next year if anyone is interested in putting that on our sights. (This year I have already signed up for Patriots.) I think it would be great fun to take the RMEC and do "pot luck" teams. We could draw names out of a hat for team members. And the ladies could do the sprint the day before, cheered on by the guys!
