RUN RSVP: Saturday 10/05

Okay, last week was a recovery week. Here is hoping your legs are ready for a challenge. Intermediate plan runners are doing their second 20 miler, and everyone else is running 18. For safety reasons, I pushed the start back to 7:00 a.m. It is too dark right now to put a group our size on the roads. By 10:00 am it should still be under 75.

Run Details:

  • Day: Saturday @ 7:00 a.m.
  • Where: Harris Teeter
  • First Carolina State Bank Half: 5 miles
  • Novice: 18 miles
  • and Intermediate: 20 miles
  • Supported: Yes - Three stops of Powerade, Water, and Gels.
  • Weather: Forecast
The current forecast is calling for showers. We still run in the rain! If it rains on race day, you would not quit. . . right? Actually running in the rain is one of my favorite things to do. Here are a few tips. . .
  • Put on extra body glide to prevent chafing
  • Bring a hat to keep water out of your eyes
  • Don't over dress. You can put on a jacket but you will get just as wet from perspiration
  • Bring a towel and a shirt so you can change post run

Fluids will be at the tracks (twice) and Co-Ah-Bar. Bring more if you need it.

  1. I'll either run 5 with anyone getting ready for the First Carolina Half, or go 8-10 with any other group and peel off back to Harris Teeter.

Just a quick thought...It is a smart idea to put a few bucks in your pocket (in a zip lock bag so it won't get soaked) on these long runs. During my last 20 I ran out of fuel and needed a Gatorade, banana, or something. I had access to water but I needed more. We tried to "beg" a Gatorade from a convience store to no avial.

I learned my lesson the hard way!

Will you have gels at the tracks or do we need to bring our own? Elaine and I are planning on running 18.

Never mind, I just read the blog again and saw that there would be gels and powerade and water. Thanks!
Elaine and I may take off a little early if we can arrive there in time. The rest of you will catch up and pass us quickly.

FYI...For those doing 20 - The description is missing the turn onto Wildwood at approx. the 10 mile mark.

  15. The 18 mile route directions are missing a right turn onto Hawthorne before the left turn onto Gravely. However, everyone will probably understand it as a given.

  16. On the 18 mile route, the missing turn onto Hawthorne is at approx. the 14 mile mark.
