Several bike rides are scheduled for this week beginning tonight. Most of these start at the dentist office on the corner of Winstead and Michael Scott. Eric Seale is organizing these, and does an excellent job of working with riders, so no one is left behind. Ursula has ridden with him several times. - Tonight: 6:15 dentist office, 30 mile Elm City Loop
- Wed: 5:45 AM dentist office morning ride - 18 miles
- Thursday: 5:45 AM dentist office morning ride 18 miles
- Friday: 5:45 AM dentist office morning ride 18 miles
- Saturday: 7:00 AM dentist office 25-30 miles (UPDATED)
- Sunday: 7:00 AM dentist office 50-60 miles (UPDATED)
If you want to start riding more, or are new to the sport, come join them for a ride!
Can anyone recommend a good bike helmet ? I still have to get one.

ReplyDeleteDo you mean the Golden Hornet?
I wonder if my baseball cap would do ?
ReplyDeleteArthur, Just about any helmet sold through Performance, Nashbar or at Steves or Moores would be rated as safe. Given our climate, I suggest going for as many vents as possible. I have had helmets by Bell, Giro, Limar, Troy Lee, and Ironman - all worked just fine. Make sure you either measure your head as suggested or go to a shop and try them on as a tight helmet hurts and a loose one won't protect. As a bike helmet is meant to break to absorb impact, don't spend a ton...even though you hope to never need it. Oh, get a helmet with a plastic shell, not just foam, so that it won't damage as easily in the back of your car.
ReplyDeleteupdate on ride times
ReplyDeleteSaturday morning and Sunday morning rides will start at 7 AM. Saturday will be about 25 to 30 and Sunday 50 to 60. Come one come all - the more we have, the fewer pulls per person!
Thanks for the input !
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting the bike times. I should be there sunday. This will be my first group ride so any tips on etiquette will be appreciated.
ReplyDeleteJim,
ReplyDeleteWould you be able to ride earlier than 7? So far it is just Tim and I and we were thinking we may go between 6 and 6:30 depending (Sunday ride).
Eric

I'll call you on Saturday. My number is 903-0269.
ReplyDeleteSunday morning ride will leave at 6:30 AM from Belton and Schrimper parking lot.
ReplyDeleteEric,
ReplyDeleteWhat time do you usually finish your weekday rides? Kinnie
The morning rides usually start at 5:45-5:50 and we are currently doing a 17.4 mile loop that takes around 52 minutes - so I am usually home around 6:50. The afternoon rides vary, but generally a 6PM start gets us home (resevoir loop) around 7:10 to 7:15 (19 miles).
