Race for the Cure

Tracy Hicks pointed this race out to me last week. This one is not until June, but it a big race (thousands of runners), and I believe can fill up. This event is part of the Susan G. Komen organization. Event's like this happen all over the country, and one of them is in Raleigh starting at Meredith College. The Susan G. Komen for the Cure promise is to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures.

The event is very family friendly. It has a KidZone with play areas and activities. They also have the Little Road Runner Race for kids 3-5. If your children are older they can participate in the One-Mile Fun Run/Walk.

This race is obviously designed to raise money for the foundation. For this reason participants are encouraged to raise money through pledges. This can actually be setup online, with a link directly on our blog (I think). You can also collect pledges the old fashion way through a check. If the RMEC was interested, we could enter a team into this event. To have a team, you must have 10 members entered in the race. By June, we should have our RMEC race shirts, so we could wear those too.

I think this could be a great event to participate in. Anyone interested in being a captain and setting up a team? Tracy???

I would love to set up a team or just go as individuals if we dont have enough for a team. My mother died from breast cancer when I was 7 months pregnant with my first child so this would mean a lot to me. I have never done this race before. A lot of denial about the disease and the fact that I think that Im invincible, I guess, but Im planning to do it this year, with my sister. I hope that we can put together a team!!! Anyone interested????? I think it would be fun!!

OK--Tracy I am in--5k--I think I will see if Kayla wants to do it, too. We can run/walk together. Is Sarah up for it as well? They can come with me if you want to run with your sister. I think it will be a blast...for a GREAT cause!!!
