Okay RMEC . . . it's time to try something different! There is a new relay race being held April 30 - May 1st that sounds like a blast! All we have to do is get a team together and run from near Columbia, SC to Folly Beach, SC (just over 200 miles). . . But don't let that stop you from considering this!

The plan is to get together a 12-person team, two vans, a bunch of supplies and head to SC! I guarantee every person will have a total blast! Friends that have participated in similar relays have told me these are, without a doubt, the most fun events they EVER do!
There are 36 sections of the race, varying from 3.2 miles to 10 miles . . . and each participant will run three sections . . . with a good break between each! All sections are run on roads. Here is what each runner on the team would do (remember these are not consecutive miles):
#1 - 15.4 miles
#2 - 20.3
#3 - 14.1
#4 - 19.4
#5 - 12.4
#6 - 15.8
#7 - 18.2
#8 - 14.7
#9 - 12.4
#10 - 23.9
#11 - 15.6
#12 - 22.0
The Palmetto200 website has a lot more information and details. Plus, suggestions on logistics. I have a friend (Eric Chatham) in Charleston, SC who has done several of these and will be on our team and can really help us put together a plan. You can also join their Facebook group as well.
The cost is $1,200 ($100 per person) BUT . . . there is a 25% discount if we enter by February 2nd. So to save $25 per person we need to decide quickly!! Plus, we will need to rent 2 vans for the weekend.
I can't run far yet but I am certain I can handle 3.2 miles. This sounds like allot of fun. I hope you will consider participating since there are a variety of distances and it will give everyone a chance to do an event together.
ReplyDeleteI definitely would like to participate in this.
ReplyDeleteI would love to do a relay like this and have talked about it for over a year now but I can't make this date. Count me in on the next one!!
ReplyDeleteSame as Tracy. Already signed up for the White Lake Sprint, 5/2, but would love to do something like this soon.
ReplyDeletesounds like a challenge the RMEC needs to do. Im interested. Anyone else??
ReplyDeleteTracy H
Okay everyone interested . . . I'm contacting some folk outside of RMEC to see if we can field a team. If not the Palmetto200 then we'll focus on the Blue Ridge 200 Relay this fall. I'll probably post a comment here tomorrow or Friday (Saturday at the latest!!)
ReplyDeleteCharlotte . . do you feel like you can complete the mileage for the shortest distance (3 sections totalling 12.4 miles)???

Any others???
I would consider it, but I am a slow runner.
ReplyDeleteMisty
I'm in. (If you'll have me. I'm slower than Misty.) She wants to do it too!
ReplyDeleteAwesome Misty and Elaine! How about Brad?
ReplyDeleteIm not fast either, but is sounds like fun, all of us crammed in a van, sweaty, stinkin' but having a great time!!! What more could we ask for....hum I just wonder????

One question - what about the port-a-potty?! Please include options for relieving oneself in the training curriculum....

Eric Chatham promised to get back with me this weekend to tell me how many folks he has.
I'm sending everyone an e-mail . . .
But Charlotte, I'm afraid I don't know your last name and I don't have you e-mail address. You can find my e-mail listed under the RMEC members listing. Just send me an e-mail! Or call me at 252-454-8208.
just realized this is weekend of Flying Pig. I was considering doing this one with my sister. I will let you know tonight if I can do Palmetto. Sorry !
ReplyDeleteMisty
This looks like too much fun!!! I would love to be a part of the team, unfortunely I can't make it that weekend. Put my name in the hat for the next relay race.
ReplyDeleteOkay folks . . . we weren't able to gather enough folks for the Palmetto200.
ReplyDeleteBut . . . There is the Blue Ridge Relay on September 17 & 18 (actually we would probably go up there on the 16th and probably return on the 19th)

Not asking for a commitment yet, but who is interested AND has that weekend open?
