I wanted to get a message on the blog, just in case you had not seen an email about the group. The race says today they are 86% filled. This means there are less than 5,000 spots left. In the first six days, 25,000 people signed up. If you are interested, you need to sign up now.
Of the 16 registered. . .
- Predicted times range from 3:10 to 6:00+.
- We have people doing their first marathon and people doing their 30+ marathon
- One third are women
- Regardless of your ability you will fit in this group!
Sounds like an exciting weekend is building for the RMEC. Don't miss out. Post a comment if you are running!
Im in!
ReplyDeleteTeam Miller will be there. We will be alternating days during the week in the early am throughout the summer, but hope to both be there for Sat am runs with the group. We will be staying with family in Fairfax.
ReplyDeleteI'm signed up. Time to get over my fear and rerun the course of my worst marathon ever! (Patti you promise it is a different course than 2003??)
ReplyDeleteGo to www.marinemarathon.com and click under race info and look for course. It says that 2008 was a new "journey" for runners. Hills to mile 8 then pretty flat up to mile 26 with an incline for the last .2
ReplyDeleteSo we will make it. :)
You guys are a baddd influence. I'm in now too.
ReplyDeleteYAY!!! The list keeps growing---think of what a great time we all had that first summer we trained for Richmond.......and the great friends we made along the way!!!!
ReplyDeleteKeep 'em coming!!!!
Im in as well and will be staying with a family in Arlington!!
ReplyDeleteI still have at least one guaranteed entry through April 13th if anyone needs it.

88% filled now.
ReplyDeleteAt 2% per day now, It would seem the race will sell out by next Tuesday.
Why was it your worst marathon, Tracy? Tell me before I talk Elaine into it. It's still open.......

Go Misty! Sign up!
ReplyDeleteStill showing 88% now.
It had nothing to do with the course or race itself. The course is beautiful and extremely well organized--I do highly recommend the race. For me it was a bad day (as all race days seem to be for me), the weather kept switching from cold in the wind to warm and played havoc on my muscles. This is the only race I have ever cramped and went flying to the ground in pain. I finished just shy of 5 hours. This was my second marathon and I was probably over confident after my first went so well that I was not prepared for it like I should have been. As all of us know, you have to respect the distance and I learned the hard way!
ReplyDeleteCome on Misty & Elaine! We want y'all there too! It'll be great fun!
ReplyDeleteDo it. . . do it. . . do it. . . do it. . .
ReplyDeleteElaine is out of town until Sun. Can't convince her until then. Where can I see the percentage filled? Can I run this by myself?? I guess you can tell that I am about over the fence on this.
ReplyDeleteMisty
Misty - I know you can do it. This will be a fun adventure. If you go to the www.marinemarathon.com web site, there is a promo on the home page that shows the percent filled. It's still at 88%. It is where they have the "Don't Miss Out. Register now." message.
ReplyDeleteLooks like we are up to 17 registered now!
ReplyDeleteElaine and I are in! I am so excited!!!
ReplyDeleteMisty
I still have 2 registrations good until April 13th if it sells out and anyone wants in!!
ReplyDeleteTracy Hicks
Where is everyone staying? I now have three reservations: The Virginian Suites in Alexandria, the Hyatt and the Doubletree. The Doubletree is within blocks of start and finish, the other hotels are a couple miles to many miles away. Elaine and I would like to stay where the others are, but I am very concerned about getting to the race and getting back to the hotel. Let me know!
ReplyDeleteMisty
We are at The Virginian Suites too.
ReplyDeleteI looked at the Doubletree the other night, and I think the Marine Corp site has it listed in correctly. (I could be wrong)
It IS close to the start, but the site says 3 blocks from the finish. I think that is supposed to say 3 miles based on the map. The Doubletree is actually South of the Pentagon.
The start and finish are about a mile apart, and there really are no hotels in between (that is where Arlington National Cemetary is). I am not positive how you enter the start area, but the runner village is at the Pentagon parking lot, which is even further away from the finish line.
I picked the Virginian Suites, becuase it appears to be the closest to the finish line (which is important to me in case I have a post race "Grandmas-type-meltdown" again). I have called the hotel, and they said they are considering a shuttle. Even if they don't it appears I can catch a cab to get close to the start without hitting the road closures.
All of this being said. . . everyone do your own research. I may have booked a bad hotel, but it looked like a good choice to me.
So excited to see we have 18 runners!
I'm in
