OBX Pre-race Pasta?

Typically when the RMEC has a big group travel to a race, we normally try to arrange a meal the night before to "carb-load". Sometimes we have everyone together, and other times we have several mini groups. With 10 runners plus multiple family members, OBX presents a great chance for an outing.

I started this post to give everyone a chance to post their plans, and see if anyone wants to organize a big dinner. It is not easily done, because restaurants will be crowded, but if you plan in advance and eat a little but early it can work out for everyone. Let us know your plans!

I don't know of too many places. But, there's a place called "High Cotten" (I think it's a Barbecue-type joint...probably not classic "Carbo" fare).

There's also Owens (great seafood place...but might be "pricey")

i am not going, but i can make a good recommendation for a restaurant. the best place in the area according to all the locals is basnight's lone cedar on the causeway between manteo and nag's head. it is an awesome restaurant with a gourmet fresh seafood menu. everything is local and fresh (they have docks and their own fish cleaner where the fisherman bring it in every day), even the vegetables are fresh and local. they have plenty of pasta selections typically (you could probably access a menu on line. this is a little pricey, but we never miss a trip to basnight's when we make a trip to nag's head (which is once or twice a year). wish i was going, just for the food!

it burned to the ground about a year and a half ago so it is all new. the new restaurant is very nice, but they still have a lot of regathering of decorations to restore its old charm. still well worth the trip.

  3. Hi,

I'll be at OBX. I did the pasta dinner thingy. Was pretty good. Met a lot of people. So I'm doing it again this year at the Hilton Garden. My place is only 5 miles away so it is close and easy. Plus I always stick to pasta/bland the night before...

Anyway..my number is 252-532-3395..if any of you want a place to hang out before or after the race give me a call..I'm right on the beach road and great beach..mile post 5...

    Good luck to you all..

    always,
