I can not be there Saturday for the run, and do not have the ability to create a route. We have ample routes listed under the running route link to the right. Will someone please pick two routes that can be used.
I would recommend backing the start time up to 6:30 as well to beat the heat. During the summer we need to run early to stay safe. Bring fluids!
Please comment on this thread if you plan to run, bring fluids, or pick the route.
I wanted to ask y'alls opinion I think I have shin splints. My shin started hurting on the Wed. AM run and I had a noticeable limp last night after my run. This morning I had some pain in my shin when I woke up. I want to RUN tommorow because I want to get into training for Chicago but i don't want this thing to get any worse. I don't feel like I am in very good shape and already feel behind-so I am trying to get back on the horse. Should I run tommorow? Should I give it time off/how long? Should I push through it but slower pace? Ice? I am lost-please help!
ReplyDeleteDerek, have you tried Aleve/ice after running ? I have had brief bouts with shin pain....not sure if it qualified as splints. Aleve and icing helped, but was not a cure-all. My .02-worth is to be careful by reducing the mileage in the short-term an mix in some low-impact cardio. I know they also sell special sleeves for your shins.
ReplyDeleteBut, I should defer to the doctors and PT's who also visit this blog.
I'm planning on running in the morning. 10 to 14 depending on the smoke situation. Are we starting at 6:30 or 7:00?
ReplyDeleteI plan to be there also. I hope to go 7-8 miles at a 9:45-10 pace.
ReplyDeleteI'm skipping the run tomorrow. Hopefully I'll get in a run Sunday a.m. when/if the smoke has cleared.

I will not be there to put put fluids if somebody can drop them at the tracks.
I'll put out the fluids. What time does everyone want to start? 6:30 or 7:00
ReplyDeleteI'll prefer 6:30....
ReplyDeleteI will miss tomorrow a.m. Not too sure about the smoke either.
ReplyDeleteBe careful.

ReplyDeleteWhat are your goals for Chicago? If you are shooting for a pr or specific time that is challenging for you . . . I don't know what to suggest. If, however, your just looking to have a good, fun run I think I can help!
Every RMEC runner I know GREATLY overestimates the amount of training necessary to run a maeathon and simply have fun. Quite honestly if your long run has been 16 miles, and you've had two weeks rest, your good to go. Take it easy and have fun.
For Boogie tomorrow, my longest run in the last four weeks has only been 8 miles . . . but I'll be ok. No fast times, but I'll have a ton of fun!!!
Bottomline: if you are okay with not performing at your peak potential, don't worry . . take some time off and have a blast at Chicago!!
Just my opinion!
Triple F
Thanks for all the suggestions, I am taking a little time off to recover and then back to training. Thanks again for all the help everyone
